| Atlas Energy, Inc. (NASDAQ: ATLS) formerly Atlas America, Inc. ("Atlas Energy" or "the Company"), has been engaged in the energy industry since 1968 and is currently a leading producer in the Marcellus Shale.
The company is also one of the largest producers in the New Albany Shale in Indiana, the Antrim Shale in Michigan and the Chattanooga Shale in Tennessee. Atlas Energy is the country's leading sponsor and manager of tax-advantaged energy investment partnerships that finance the exploration and development of natural gas. Over the last five years, Atlas Energy has raised in excess of $1.5 billion through its drilling programs. Additionally, Atlas Energy manages a midstream energy service provider engaged in the transportation, gathering and processing of natural gas in the Mid-Continent and Appalachia regions of the United States through its subsidiary Atlas Pipeline Holdings, L.P. (NYSE: AHD), owner of the general partner of Atlas Pipeline Partners, L.P. (NYSE: APL).The Company also holds an interest in Lightfoot Capital Partners LP (Lightfoot LP) and Lightfoot Capital Partners GP, LLC (Lightfoot GP), the general partner of Lightfoot, entities which incubate new master limited partnerships (MLPs) and invest in existing MLPs.
As of June 30, 2009, Atlas Energy owns proved natural gas reserves of over one trillion cubic feet and produces approximately 100 mmcfe/d of natural gas net to the Company from more than 9,000 operated wells. Additionally, the Company holds the mineral rights to over one million acres in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio, New York, Tennessee, Michigan and Indiana.
Atlas Energy is a leading Marcellus Shale operator controlling 519,000 net acres, with 266,000 acres in Southwestern Pennsylvania. As of December 31, 2009, Atlas Energy has successfully drilled approximately 200 Marcellus shale wells.
The Company's executive management team has substantial experience in the energy industry, with financial and operational executives averaging more than two decades of experience in natural gas and oil. In addition, management has a successful track record of managing public energy companies, growing proved reserves and production through drilling and strategic acquisitions and integrating acquired properties. The management team is supported by technical and operating managers with expertise in unconventional plays and the basins in which Atlas Energy operates.
